		<description>Jeff,

For movies, the actors will often have two microphones. One primary (closer to them) and one secondary (often a shotgun mic positioned further away). This provides different sounds for the environment that they may be in as well as a backup audio track of the performance. To answer your question; the angle of the microphone as well as its distance to the actor depends on the type of microphone that it is. A shotgun mic is positioned so it points directly toward the actor. They are speaking towards the top of the microphone. Whereas, a large diaphragm condenser (like the one pictured above) appears as though you are talking into the side of the microphone rather than the top. Thanks for reading and for your questions.

<description>I saw some footage of actors recording for the movie Rio recently. I noticed that for some, the mic was angled away from them, as shown above and for others, it was reversed and the bottom of the mic was angled towards the actor. Does this make a difference or is it just two different ways of accomplishing the same thing?

<description>Great post! I am using it right now with a client on the phone to help illustrate how to position her mic. I will post this as a link from my resources section of the website.
